Julie Massé is a French perfumer whose creativity was sparked long before she ever stepped into a lab. Born in Tokyo to a family originally from Grasse—the historic capital of perfumery—she spent the first years of her life immersed in a rich sensory world of aromas and travel. From an early age she devoured scent exploration, inspired by her father’s work in the industry and surrounded by raw materials that awakened her curiosity. She studied chemistry and perfumery at ISIPCA, then began her professional journey in raw-material quality control in Grasse, where she absorbed the craft’s technical foundations under mentors like Pierre Bourdon and later Christine Nagel, who encouraged her creativity and boldness.

Massé’s signature style blends clarity and emotion, favouring ingredients that enhance narrative and harmony. Her creations aim to envelop wearers in an “invisible companion” of energy and warmth, built from a deep understanding of materials like vetiver, rose, and citrus. She has crafted celebrated scents for international houses—including Giorgio Armani’s Sì series, Annick Goutal, Calvin Klein, and Trussardi—while also serving as the perfumer behind Shay & Blue’s innovative collections, where her accessible yet expressive fragrances reflect both tradition and modern sensibility.
